Paediatric Osteopathy: Postural and Developmental Issues in School Age 2026

The course “Paediatric Osteopathy: Postural and Developmental Issues in School Age” covers the developmental issues in 6-12 years old patients. With a schedule that balances theory and practice, it will provide the tools to assess and treat postural and motor problems, anxiety, learning disabilities, and language disorders.

Held by Dr Alain Bouchard Pht, DO, with 40 years of experience in the paediatric field, this three-day course is based on evidence and relevant case-stories completed by the perspectives of neuro-developmental approaches, anatomy, embryology, phylogenesis, and pathophysiology.

At the end of the course, the pratictioners will know the main patterns related to these problems; moreover, they will be able to know when to intervene and how to treat them with a simple, precise and effective approach, also collaborating with other professionals.

The main topics

This three-day course covers the osteopathic treatment for learning disabilities, motor disorders and postural issues in 6-12 years olds children. Among the main topics it will analyse language disorders, dyslexia, ADHD, visuo-spatial dyspraxia, idiopathic scoliosis, and walking. Specific importance will be given to the role of the various facilitators, from the cranial area and the sacrum-coccyx region, to the digestive tract, the neuro-sensory influences and inflammation, also considering epigenetic and environmental influences. During the practical sessions, specific advanced techniques will be shown and there will be the opportunity to see live treatments in the classroom.

Learning outcomes

• Identify the visceral and cranial origins of posture and motor disorders
• Understand and evaluate para-sympathicotonic states and their influences
• Understand the multi-factorial nature of different developmental disorders and the comorbidity
• Know the role of the osteopath: when and how to intervene, evaluate and treat these conditions
• Learn about treatment using perceptual and volumetric palpatory approaches
• Understand the role of inter-professional collaboration to adequately support children in their development
• Know the other avenues of research on these issues

Registration

The course Paediatric Osteopathy: Postural and Developmental Issues in School Age is intended for osteopaths and students of osteopathy from the 4th year. All registration forms must be received by Friday 10th April 2026.

  • PROFESSOR

    Dr Alain BOUCHARD (Pht, DO)

    BouchardOsteopath and physiotherapist with 40 years of experience in the paediatric field, he has developed a unique expertise in learning and developmental disorders, as well as postural and motor issues in children. He worked as a research assistant in a motor skills laboratory and later conducted research on academic performance and osteopathy in primary school children. He has conducted workshops and courses in Quebec, Canada, United States, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, and Brazil. For over 20 years (and still today), Alain has worked on professional regulation in Quebec and has participated in about ten annual meetings of the OIA. In 2015, in partnership with OIA and with the support of Osteopathy Quebec, he organized the First Global Conference on Pediatric Osteopathy and Interprofessional Collaboration.
